EDDIE IN SAUSALITO
"Poggio in Sausalito got all kinds of star power, too. First, British comedic
actor Eddie Izzard (from FX's The Riches) was in town for a show at the Orpheum,
and dined outside on Poggio's patio with three friends. The four-hour feast included
plenty of cocktails, food, and wine. They kept to themselves—and no, Eddie was
not wearing a dress!"
LIVE PODCAST
"The Strip is LIVE tonight with British comic actor and famed transvestite
Eddie Izzard, who performs his stand-up at the Palms' The Pearl this weekend.
We'll also be chatting about Steve's night at Diablo's and Noir, Wynn's big splash
and Lake Las Vegas' woes and we'll have some odd little audio clips to share from
a couple of other podcasts. Come into the chatroom at
LVRocks.Com
at 7 p.m. PST or wait until later in the week for the podcast version. "

ELVIS & EDDIE
"Spectacle: Elvis Costello With " will premiere Dec. 3 on the U.S. cable channel
Sundance and at a still to be determined date in Canada on CTV and later Bravo.
The series of hour-long interviews and impromptu jam sessions - taped in New York
with Elton John, Tony Bennett, Lou Reed and former president Bill Clinton among
the first guests - is a unique co-production with broadcasters in the U.S., Canada
and the U.K.
He says he had two guests that night - Kim Cattrall, whom he had never met,
and Eddie Izzard, whom he was acquainted with. "She came on largely in a version
of her character from 'Sex and the City' and flirted and it was very funny," he
says. Izzard's segment, he felt, didn't go as well because "I maybe made too many
assumptions that would get us through the interview. And, in fact, I felt that
I could have done better."

THE BEST OF BEXHILL
IT
WAS time to celebrate the good, the brave and the dedicated on Tuesday evening
when the De La Warr Pavilion threw open its doors, rolled out the red carpet and
celebrated Bexhill's finest at the third annual Achiever Awards - and it turned
into a star-studded event in more ways than one with a special guest appearance
by actor and comedian Eddie Izzard. Eddie, who had taken time out from his smash
hit three month sell-out tour of the USA, grew up in Sidley and was on a brief
return visit home. He attended the ceremony to present two awards, including the
Overall Achiever Award to his father John Izzard.

COCKTAILS, ANYONE?
Cocktail Marketing, the partnership marketing agency, has been appointed
by Eddie Izzard to find sponsors for his proposed UK stand-up tour next year.
It is understood that the tour will not go ahead if suitable partners cannot be
found.
The agency won the business after a competitive pitch against undisclosed agencies.
It is not thought that there as an incumbent agency.
The agency is now seeking a headline sponsor that will name the tour as well
as having "various content rights" of Izzard. It is understood to include branding
at the venues and on tickets as well as adverts and online.
Izzard, who is currently touring the US, has also appeared in a number of radio
and TV shows, films and plays. In 2005, he was voted one of the top 20 comedy
acts ever by fellow comedians and industry experts.

 WE
HAVE A WINNER! Thanks to all who donated; we collected over $250 for CARE
International which may only be a drop in the bucket for what they need, but many
drops make up a bucket and many buckets make up a barrel which many barrels make

AN EVENING WITH THE RICHES
Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves: An Evening with The Riches Friday, April 18,
2008; 7:00 pm at the Paley
Center for Media
Now in its second season, FX's The Riches takes a satirical look at the American
need for self-improvement and upward mobility while mining the full horror—and
darkly comedic potential—of those identity theft warnings that accompany your
monthly bank statement. Gonzo comic Eddie Izzard and critical darling Minnie Driver
are Wayne and Dahlia Malloy, Irish-American gypsies working grifts and cons in
the Deep South who appropriate the surname of the recently deceased, well-to-do
Riches, thereby trading in their mobile home for a McMansion. But in their ploy
for the American Dream, the Malloys come to realize that life in suburbia may
be the biggest scam of all. Join the actors and writers of The Riches as they
regale us "buffers" (i.e., nontravelers) with their tales.

Update #2: From MSN (thanks Annette)
Eddie and Minnie meet the fans
Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver, stars of the US hit show The Riches, have stepped
out together in Beverly Hills to meet fans.
The two Brits came face to face with viewers at a special Q and A held at the
Paley Centre for Media in Los Angeles.
Speaking before the event, comedian Eddie joked that he was hoping to meet
a few ardent stalkers: "Hopefully [they'll be] psychotic, we always hope for rabid,
crazy, insane fans. The people I meet in the street, they're all ages, all sizes
and colours."
Eddie explained how he loves the variety in viewers: "With my stand-up I'd
rather have more of the black community, the Hispanic community, coming to watch
and I don't know quite how you break through to access that if you're a white
person - but with The Riches we're black, white, green, yellow, blue, everyone
- very few blue I must say, but the people I've met are just really huge fans."
On the show, the pair play a family of crooks who assume the identity of an
upper-middle-class suburban clan in the Deep South.
Minnie mused that some people in Hollywood are sometimes confused by Eddie:
"They think he's kind of eccentric and exotic here in America, but Eddie's just
a brilliant Englishman. That's his thing, he's clever and smart and uses that
intelligence in his work... and he's looking glossier as the days go by, sort
of sexy and Hollywood but he's still fundamentally him."
Update: A highlights report from Maria posted at
THE
TREEHOUSE (thanks Maria!):
- "The Riches" was always intended for cable because (according to Eddie) "We
wanted to say sh*t a lot!"
- Eddie took the role of Wayne because he wanted to do drama and break away
from comedy, in a Bill Murray/Hugh Laurie kind of way.
- The explanation for Wayne's lack of Southern accent is "he's from elsewhere
and got into the family as a teenager."
- The role of the transvestite son in the show was created even before Eddie
joined the cast.
- Aidan (who plays Sam) said his interpretation of Sam's transvestism is inspired
by Eddie, "because he's an action transvestite like you."
- Eddie does have input about what the transvestite son is wearing. ("A transvestite
child would NEVER wear flats!")
- When asked about his upcoming tour, Eddie said he'd planned "to be on the
road about two months, and suddenly it got longer. I don't know how that happened!"
And now for my question - were he ever given the chance, would he play the
role of The Doctor on "Doctor Who"? "Well, I've been watching it with David Tennant
and he's very good, isn't he?" (At this point, he looked at Minnie Driver, sitting
next to him, and she went, "Yes... he's rather big eyed!") "So, before him, I
would have said no, and when they were talking about bringing it back Tom Baker
(who played the Fourth incarnation of The Doctor) threw my name into the BBC hat,
and the BBC *makes spitting motion* spat it back out. They wouldn't even consider
it! But now, after seeing David do it, I'd consider it, because they've made it
so that the sci-fi/special effects part is just a touch and so it's great. Back
in the day, there were a lot of clattering, rolling sets and I used to watch it
from behind the sofa because I was so scared... I'm pretty sure I've missed lots
of things on those episodes. But yeah, seeing what David Tennant has done, I'd
consider it."
